Bloomsburg Downs Mercyhurst In Field Hockey

ERIE-- Ashley Heckard (Millerstown/Greenwood) scored two goals to lead the Bloomsburg University hockey team to a 5-0 win over Mercyhurst College on Friday.

Brieann Wolfe (Perkasie/Pennridge) got the Huskies on the board with a goal at the 17 minute mark off an assist from Jamie Vanartsdalen (Huntington Valley/Lower Moreland). Heckard then scored off a penalty corner with 1:44 to go before halftime giving the visitors a 2-0 lead.

Heckard scored her second goal of the game just 3:57 into the second half off an assist from Kelsy Kress (Lansdale/Metchacton) to make it 3-0. Bloomsburg put the game away with goals by Liz Macready (Denver/Cocalico) and Erin Hench (Loysville/West Perry).

Defensively, the Huskies limited Mercyhurst to just six shots, three on goal.

Bloomsburg, 10-1, plays at Slippery Rock on Saturday at noon.
